Creating Unique PowerPoint Content Templates
A template is a foundation from which you create
a presentation. A template can provide backgrounds for slides, font selection, text placeholders,
and other design elements. A template can also provide a foundation for presentation content.
PowerPoint comes with two types of templates. The most common template is a design template;
the other is a content template. Content templates contain formats and color schemes just like
design templates, plus suggested content for specific subjects. For example, existing PowerPoint
content templates provide structure for company meetings, personal introductions, and team motivation.
To create a unique PowerPoint content template
- Access the presentation that will serve as the foundation for your work. You have two options
from which to choose:
- Open an existing PowerPoint presentation. Choose one that has the basic content
from which you want to work, or
- Open one of the PowerPoint content templates. Open PowerPoint. Select Open from
the File menu. Under Files of type, select Presentation Templates (*.pot). Navigate
to the appropriate folder, usually c:/Program Files/Microsoft Office/Templates/Presentations.
Click Open.
- Change the template to suit your needs. You can change subject matter, details, organization,
etc. Make sure that you use the Slide Master to change background items or the appearance of
the font.
- On the File menu, click Save As.
- Enter a name for the content template, and then click Content Template in the Save as type
box.
- Choose a location in which to save the template. You can save your content template in one
of your own folders, or you can save it with the other content templates in the Presentations
folder. If you want to be able to easily select this template to attach to future presentations,
store it in the Presentations folder, Program Files/Microsoft Office/Templates/Presentations.
- Click Save.
