Saving PowerPoint Presentations as FrontPage Web Sites

Microsoft Office 2000 makes it easy to incorporate PowerPoint presentations into a FrontPage-based web site. It is really quite simple to do. You just save the PowerPoint presentation to the web folder where the FrontPage-based web site is stored. You can save a PowerPoint presentation in its binary format (.ppt) or save it as a web page (.htm). Once the presentation is included in the web site, you can edit it by running FrontPage or by running the application you used to create it (PowerPoint). You can even use FrontPage to create hyperlinks to the presentation or add the presentation to the web site's navigation structure.

What is a binary file? A binary file is computer — readable, but not readable by humans. All executable programs are store in binary files — as are most data files.

To save a PowerPoint presentation to a FrontPage-based web site

You can save an Office document such as a PowerPoint presentation to a web site in either of two formats:

  • Binary format (.ppt for PowerPoint)
If you save the presentation in binary format, visitors to the web site must have PowerPoint installed to view it.

  • HTML format (web page)
If you save the presentation in HTML format, visitors can view it in their web browser — even if they don't have PowerPoint.
  1. Open PowerPoint and create the presentation.

  2. When you are ready to save the presentation to the web site, select File > Save As.

  3. In the Save As dialog, click the Web Folders button.

  4. Double-click the URL of the FrontPage-based web site or enter the URL in the File name field and press ENTER.

  5. Under File name, enter a name for the file. Then click Save.

Bonus Tip!
For more information about saving other Microsoft Office documents as web pages, trying using the Office Assistant. Just enter "save as web page" in the Office Assistant to learn more.
